Artist's Comments

This is one of my two entries to the Flowers contest being held by Artisan Craft club :iconartisancraft: (Check the contest on their journal)

The piece is inspired by a Tsuba in the MFA Boston collection, made with the sukashi technique.

The alloy is Shibuichi (with about 25% Silver in it and patinated with Baldwin's patina). I have yet to nail these alloys properly.

From the technical aspect I must say things always look better without magnification for some reason. Don Simpson's suggestion that I should cast the crashing waves panels (which is just a study) led me to ponder whether I could get over my issues with cast work and in general making series of works. I suppose it is some sort of alignment going on as my fiancee talked me into making some things to be made in series (in silver most likely) so that she could open an Etsy store. The idea is that she would do some kumihimo cords or macrame to make these medallion/pendants wearable and offer them for rather affordable prices €50/£50 or thereabouts. So basically I am working on that.

The originals, namely these pieces that I will be posting will be available for sale before the series are made during the coming Autumn ready for the festive season.

I really, really like this- it's so organic looking, which I suppose is the point given the nature of the competition ^_^ Reminds me of art-deco-ey, Mucha-type swirls for some reason.
YumYum.

Organic is the goal indeed.

If you like swirls then I suppose you will be shown plenty of stuff to like coming from my workbench.

Thanks a lot for your support! :D

True enough; there's swirly eye-candy everywhere! I'm going to need a bucket for my slobber soon- and that's never an attractive look, it has to be said =3

Kind regards
