Return of the Journal

I found this today and I thought I would share it with those of you who care to read it.

"Critics are like eunuchs in a harem; they know how its done, they've seen it done every day, but they're unable to do it themselves"

Brendan Behan

I thought it was genius, and pretty much encapsulates what the majority of dedicated critics are in my opinion.

I agree. It's one thing if you have knowledge in a field because you are or have been in the field. But most people just sit around bitching because it's not to their personal taste.

Thanks for sharing that! i've been bitching about critics for a while now... though i'm not sure if that is any better than the critics themselves lol its just that you cant go anywhere or look at ANY movie review without someone bitching about penny-ante mistakes.. i really think its just people who have too much time on their hands who call themselves critics. they've lost their lust for life so instead they bitch about anyone else trying to make something of theirs.

Don't worry about bitin' off more'n you can chew; your mouth is probably a whole lot bigger'n you think.

I rather think I've heard that one before... ;) And it is incredibly true. (of course, the exception proves the rule, but anyhow.)
A nice, positive way to start the day - how are you, anyway?

Elvis Castello said that writing about music is like dancing about architecture. The same could be said about any art. Can the visual, audio or performing arts really be examined meaningfully by word?

On the other hand, critics are often good artist themselves. And just what are art teachers if not critics? A good teacher is not a failure. The same could also be said about a good art critic.

To be entirely cynical, there are more questionable artists than critics. (Am I being critical?)
